• The vulnerabilities are not dependent on one another. Exploitation of one of the vulnerabilities is not required to exploit the other vulnerability. In addition, a software release that is affected by one of the vulnerabilities may not be affected by the other vulnerability.

  CVE-2022-20958: Cisco BroadWorks CommPilot Application Software Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

  A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco BroadWorks CommPilot Application Software could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on an affected device.

  This vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted HTTP request to the web interface of an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code on an affected device as the bworks user. This would allow the attacker to read arbitrary files in the file system and or interrupt some of the running processes.

  A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco BroadWorks CommPilot Application Software could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to perform a server-side request forgery (SSRF) attack on an affected device.

  This vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted HTTP request to the web interface of an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to obtain confidential information from the Cisco BroadWorks server and other devices on the network.

Fixed Software

• Cisco has released free software updates that address the vulnerabilities described in this advisory. Customers with service contracts that entitle them to regular software updates should obtain security fixes through their usual update channels.

  1. Cisco BroadWorks CommPilot Application Software releases earlier than Release 23.0 have reached end of software maintenance. Customers are advised to migrate to a supported release that includes the fix for these vulnerabilities.

  The Cisco Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) validates only the affected and fixed release information that is documented in this advisory.
